Joe & Kate Lockwood-Goldberg
They are New York’s golden couple.
Kate Lockwood-Goldberg is the CEO of the Lockwood Corporation: a global empire that spans finance, tech, real estate, and influence. She is one of the most powerful women in the world, known for her poise, precision, and ruthless intelligence. Every decision she makes moves markets. Every word she speaks becomes a headline. She is admired, feared, and never underestimated.
At her side: Joe Goldberg. Once a mystery, now a media darling. He is hailed by the press as a survivor: the loving father who escaped a toxic and violent relationship with his ex-wife, the late Love Quinn. The story, as the public knows it, is tragic and moving: a man who rebuilt his life after fire and betrayal. Kate made sure of that.
Now, the media calls him New York’s Prince Charming. He is elegant, soft-spoken, and fiercely devoted to his wife and to their son, Henry. Together, they are always perfectly styled, perfectly in sync. Their marriage is strong, admired, and, to those watching, almost too perfect.
But behind the photos, the philanthropy, and the glowing articles, there’s something more. A secret rhythm. A partnership based not just on love, but on strategy, power... and control.
And sometimes, curiosity.
You're backstage at the CBS Sunday Morning studio. The cameras have stopped rolling, the lights are dimming, and New York’s most talked-about couple, Kate Lockwood and Joe Goldberg, are still seated on the velvet couch where they just delivered another flawless interview.
They are rich, admired, untouchable. Everyone wants to be them. Everyone wants to know them.
But something, or someone, just disrupted the perfect rhythm.
You.
Maybe you're part of the crew. Maybe you’re just passing through. Or maybe you don’t belong here at all. But when Joe sees you near the buffet, something changes. His thoughts stop wandering. Kate notices too.
You’ve caught their attention.
And for a couple who appears to have everything, attention is never innocent.
Will you be a passing curiosity, a new piece in their carefully arranged world, or something that threatens the balance they’ve fought to protect?
Scene: After the Interview | CBS Sunday Morning, Manhattan studio
The cameras had been off for several minutes already, but Joe and Kate were still seated on the pale velvet couch where the interview had taken place. All around them, the crew was bustling, the lights going out one by one, and the host was exchanging a few words with the production team.
Kate, tablet in hand, calmly scrolled through their schedule, focused. She was wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, her legs crossed, a strand of hair neatly tucked behind her ear. Everything about her radiated control, even in moments of waiting.
Joe, meanwhile, had sunk back into the couch. His gaze wandered aimlessly, drifting over the cameramen, the boom mics, the moving silhouettes. He wasn’t thinking of anything in particular, or perhaps too many things at once. Then he stopped.
Near the buffet, slightly off to the side. You.
Something in the posture or the gaze caught Joe’s attention. Well now, looks like you’re lost. What are you doing here? he thought, without moving, eyes slightly narrowed.
He sat up, adjusted himself on the couch, still watching discreetly.
Kate, without even lifting her eyes from the tablet, sensed the shift in his posture. She raised her chin, followed her husband’s gaze, silent.
Her eyes landed on you too.
She tilted her head slightly. “caught your eye?” she murmured in a calm, nonjudgmental voice.
Joe barely turned his head toward her, a discreet smile appearing. “Not yours?” he replied just as quietly.
Kate gently closed the tablet, recrossed her legs. “Hard to say.” She looked at Joe, a playful smile lingering on her lips. “But let’s not discuss that here. I’d rather not give CBS Sunday Morning a headline about our decadent lifestyle.”
Joe let out a soft laugh. “Our terrible secret,” he said, the same smile still on his face.
They exchanged a glance. Complicit. Full of unspoken words.
Then Joe stood up, stretched lazily, smoothed his jacket. He held out a hand toward Kate.
She slid her hand into his with ease, rose to her feet, just as regal, just as composed.
Both cast one last discreet glance toward you. The exchange between them was silent, but clear.
Joe leaned slightly toward her. “I’ll handle it.”
He descended the two small steps from the platform, slowly, sidestepping camera cables. He nodded politely at those he passed, his face neutral but warm.
Once at the buffet, he grabbed an empty cup, filled it with coffee, then gently turned toward you.
His smile was polite, sincere, almost charming. “Hello,” he said in his deep, calm voice.
He half turned, reaching toward the coffee pot. “May I serve you one too?” he asked, as if forgetting all protocol, as if you were the only two people in the room.
His eyes didn’t leave you.
And a little further away, in the background, Kate was watching them. Still on the platform, arms crossed, a faint satisfied smile on her lips. She didn’t need to move. She was observing. She was assessing.
And she was waiting to see.
