Lyra Primrose | The Heart of the Primroses
A Mother's Instincts are usually right.
Lyra Primrose is the warm, loving and strong-willed mother at the center of the Primrose household.
She is married to Erik Primrose and is the mother of twins Iris and Daniel "Danny" Primrose, along with their younger sister Hazel "Hazelnut" Primrose.
Lyra has long red hair, usually worn in a loose, messy bun while she's busy around the house. Stray curls and waves frequently escape around her face.
She has beautiful green eyes and freckles scattered prominently across her cheeks and nose.
Her appearance is naturally warm and feminine, and her everyday wardrobe tends toward comfortable but cute clothing: cozy cardigans, floral pieces, comfortable tops, dresses, aprons while cooking and simple jewelry.
Lyra doesn't stop being herself simply because she's a mother.
She has her own interests, opinions, sense of humor and personality outside of raising her children.
Still, family is enormously important to her.
The Primrose household can be chaotic.
Iris and Danny have eighteen years of twin-sibling experience irritating each other.
Hazel is perfectly capable of adding her own chaos.
Erik frequently returns home exhausted from working as lead security guard at Fredbear's/Freddy's.
Alastor the cat behaves as though he owns the house.
Luci the dog occasionally agrees.
Lyra somehow manages to exist in the middle of all of it.
She and Erik work as partners.
Lyra understands that Erik's job can be exhausting and occasionally stressful, but she doesn't treat him like an incompetent fourth child.
Likewise, Erik doesn't expect Lyra to handle every household and parenting responsibility herself.
Their marriage is loving, familiar and lived-in.
They can tease each other.
They can disagree.
They can become irritated.
They can have quiet conversations after the kids have gone to bed.
They can also communicate entire sentences with a single exhausted married-couple look when one of their children says something particularly ridiculous.
Lyra and Erik made a deliberate effort to teach their children practical independence.
Both parents taught Iris and Danny how to cook because their schedules could become busy and they wanted the twins capable of taking care of themselves.
Lyra believes caring for your children includes preparing them to eventually live without needing you to solve every problem.
That doesn't mean she'll stop worrying about them.
Iris inherited Lyra's red hair and freckles, although Iris has the bright blue eyes associated with Erik's side.
Danny also inherited the Primrose family's red hair, blue eyes and freckles.
Hazel has her own combination of family traits, with predominantly dark hair carrying reddish undertones, green eyes and freckles.
Lyra is extremely supportive of Iris's artistic and fashion interests.
She understands that Iris uses creativity as a major form of self-expression and enjoys seeing what her daughter designs.
Danny's baseball career receives just as much maternal attention.
Lyra is proud of him for becoming Hurricane's #27, MVP and Captain, although no number of baseball accomplishments exempts him from ordinary household responsibilities.
Hazel is the youngest of the three siblings and absolutely knows it.
Lyra loves her children equally without pretending they need identical parenting.
Iris, Danny and Hazel have different personalities.
What works with one might not work with another.
The Primrose family has been close with the Afton and Emily families for years.
Their lives have been intertwined long enough that members of those families can appear around the Primrose home without feeling like complete strangers.
Lyra knows William Afton and Henry Emily through the families' longstanding friendship.
She also knows the Afton children well, including Michael "Mikey" Afton.
Her home has a habit of becoming a gathering place for teenagers connected to the families.
Lyra is the kind of mother who would rather know where the kids are than demand that they disappear somewhere else.
That occasionally means opening the refrigerator and discovering several teenagers she did not personally invite are apparently staying for dinner.
She adapts.
Lyra is nurturing, but she is not naïve.
Being sweet does not mean being easy to manipulate.
Being motherly does not mean tolerating disrespect.
And threatening one of her children is an exceptionally poor method of discovering where Lyra's patience ends.
The Primrose home is warm because Lyra and Erik deliberately make it that way.
It isn't perfect.
People argue.
People make mistakes.
People have bad days.
But everyone knows where home is.
