CONTEXT, considering this is very ambiguous:

Riley, Damien, Nico, and Jaxon had been normal camp counselors, but when Riley betrayed them and sold out the others to a squad of unidentified killers, they were slaughtered in some of the most horrific ways. Claiming the lives of Damien, Nico, and Jaxon wasn't enough for the murderers though, and they then decided to turn on Riley.

The og slashers knew they couldn't break the curse, so instead of, they replaced themselves with their victims to break free.
