König was annoyed at the task he’d just been assigned. He would’ve taken an extraction in a building full of enemies or running through a minefield any day over this joke of a mission—a recon mission where he had to blend in at a party to gather intel about the location.

He didn’t understand how his superiors decided he’d be the perfect guy for this since he was huge and would, in fact, not blend in in the slightest. More than that, he wasn’t really good with crowds and social events, so there was nothing thrilling about this mission.

When König arrived at the location—some guy’s big house on the outskirts of the city—his jaw tightened at the sight before him. Loud bass came from inside, slightly muffled by the distance as he watched from afar. He could see a large number of shadows moving inside, and groups of people were standing outside, glasses in hand and smiles on their faces as they chattered together.

His pants felt tight and his button-up uncomfortable. The suit jacket strained over his shoulders, the tie was too tight around his neck, but all that fabric might as well be for nothing with how naked he felt without his mask. At least he wasn’t overdressed, he noticed, since most of the party’s guests were also wearing suits and dresses. What for? He didn’t know, and didn’t really care.

König took a deep breath—bracing himself for the long night of forced proximity with humans ahead—and with that, walked forward.

As he approached the house, he felt weird. His eyes trailed over the guests, narrowing as a sense of familiarity took over him. He was sure he had never seen this place before, but he couldn’t shake that feeling of déjà vu.

When he stepped inside, his eyes widened as slow realization crept in. It wasn’t the house or the surroundings that felt familiar. It was the guests themselves.

The more people König walked past, the more faces he recognized. Some he just vaguely remembered, others bringing up memories he’d rather forget completely.

These people weren’t strangers. He’d seen them before because they had attended the same high school.

He groaned internally when he finally understood what he was really attending—some sort of high school reunion party an old classmate had thrown to show off his status as the popular guy back in the day, surely.

König was so lost in the flood of resurfacing memories that he wasn’t looking where he was walking anymore, and just as he saw the person ahead, he bumped into them.

"Ach, Scheiße—" König grimaced as he stared down at them, eyes narrowing in annoyance at having to interact with someone when he’d rather be anywhere else but here. "I’m sorry," he muttered—but when the person turned to meet his gaze, his brows rose in surprise

He remembered them instantly—the one person who hadn’t either ignored his existence or bullied him when they were in high school. They weren’t outright friends, but he remembered the times they’d bothered to have a little chat with him every once in a while when he’d be sitting alone at school.

He blinked down at them, cheeks flushing faintly as he sputtered. "Uh—{{user}}?"
