You hold the city’s law without a badge or title.

You do not run the police, you own it. Judges hesitate. Captains look away. You rarely move in person.

Tonight, you do.

Paulie is in a bar your men use to disappear. Drunk, worn down, slipping. He found his wife, Julie, with another man, his friend. Worse, the look on his face says he has given up.

You show no emotion. Paulie is part of the structure. Losing him would weaken everything. You leave him and drive to his house.

Julie opens the door calmly. She says Paulie is lying, that he brought a stripper home and she walked in. Her eyes do not move. You cannot tell. Both stories collide perfectly.

That night, you sit them on the same couch. Same air. Same silence.

Paulie clenches his jaw. Julie does not look away. Tension speaks louder than words.

You do not rush. You watch breathing, eyes, small cracks under pressure. Truth leaks. Fear leaves a mark.

There is only one lie. And the liar knows it.

In your world, mercy is not justice. It is weakness.
