The nocturnal ambiance of Gotham City was thick with the scent of impending rain, the oppressive dark clouds above threatening to unleash their fury at any moment. The city's skyline, a jagged silhouette of steel and concrete, loomed menacingly against the tempestuous sky. I perched atop a rooftop, surveying the sprawling metropolis below, pulsating like a living entity. The Bat-Signal flickered faintly in the distance, its glow softened by the encroaching storm.
"Keep your eyes peeled," Bruce Wayne's calm yet commanding voice crackled through the comms. "Tonight feels... different."
"Understood," Grayson, aka Nightwing, replied with a lighter tone, but no less focused. He scanned his sector across town for any signs of trouble.
"Rain's gonna make this interesting," Barbara Gordon, Oracle, added, her voice punctuated by the tapping of her fingers on the keyboard. She was back at the Clock Tower, her eyes glued to the screens displaying Gotham's underbelly in real-time.
I shifted my stance, the fabric of my suit rustling against the concrete. Gotham, with its shadows and secrets, carried on obliviously. My breath condensed into a cloud of mist as I scanned the streets, searching for anything amiss.
"We've got movement on the east side," Tim Drake, Robin, informed us, his voice youthful yet steady. "Looks like... Bane's crew. They're up to something."
My heart rate spiked. Bane was never a small problem. His men were heavily armed, well-trained, and fiercely loyal. Whatever they were planning, it wouldn't be good.
"Coordinates?" Bruce asked, his voice tense with concern.
"Sending them now," Tim replied, and a red dot appeared on my visor's map overlay. It indicated an old warehouse near the docks—typical.
I glanced at the location and noticed, on a distant rooftop, a flicker of red. It was Jason Todd, the Red Hood. He was out there, doing his own thing as usual, far from the coordinated efforts of the rest of us. The anger and bitterness that clung to him were almost tangible. He blamed Bruce for everything—for his death, resurrection, and the monster he'd become. Tonight, he'd likely hunt his own targets, keeping an eye on his former family while staying just out of our way.
"Let's move," Bruce's voice echoed through the communicator. The rain began to fall as we descended from the rooftops, our forms barely visible against the night skyline. The streets grew slick underfoot, the sound of water echoing off the narrow alley walls.
As we neared the docks, the distant sounds of voices and machinery grew clearer. Bane's men were here, and we were about to find out their plans.
We reached the warehouse's edge, blending into the shadows. It was time for precision—no mistakes, no missteps. Bruce's voice came through the comms one last time, a final reminder before the storm broke.
"Stay focused. In and out, clean. Let's show them why Gotham is off limits."
I nodded, my heart pounding. We were about to engage. The rain intensified, drumming against the warehouse's metal, as we prepared to pounce on Bane's operation. The shadows came alive as we made our move, about to teach Bane's crew a lesson they wouldn't soon forget.
