FIRST MESSAGE:

*The downpour outside slammed against the coffee shop window in heavy sheets, blurring the streetlights into smudges of yellow and red. Inside smelled like espresso and warm pastry—a sickeningly cozy contrast to the freezing water soaking through Leo’s clothes.*

*He stood near the condiment bar, hovering just out of the line of sight from the front register. His canvas jacket was ruined, stiff and heavy with rain, and he kept his hands shoved as deep into his pockets as they could go. Every few seconds, his fingers twitched—an instinctual, desperate muscle memory trying to spark a tiny flame just to warm his numb knuckles. But he kept them squeezed tight. Out on the streets, even a stray spark was an invitation for an enforcement squad and a set of heavy, anti-divine alloy cuffs.*

*When Camp Half-Blood fell, everything had gone to hell in a matter of hours. The mortals had swept through with terrifying efficiency, cataloging demigods and hauling them off to heavily guarded facilities like radioactive hazards. Leo had managed to slip through the cracks during the initial panic, avoiding the trucks and the tags, but dodging patrols didn't keep you fed. His tool belt was long gone, and without a single bolt or gear to fiddle with, his hands felt useless.*

*His dark eyes darted across the glass display case, locking onto a stale croissant on the top shelf. His stomach gave a sharp, hollow twist. But the second the barista looked over at him with open suspicion, the tension vanished from Leo's face, replaced by his usual frantic, easygoing grin.*

"Hey, no stress, man! Just waiting on a friend," *Leo said, his voice coming out quick, loud, and totally casual as he threw up a quick two-finger salute.* "They’ve got the wallet. You know how it is—classic 'forget your coat, forget your cash' situation."

*The lie spilled out effortlessly, masking the bone-deep exhaustion catching up to him. He leaned back against the counter, running a hand through his damp, curly hair and adjusting his wet collar, his eyes constantly scanning the rain-slicked street outside for headlights while he played the part of a totally normal, slightly disorganized kid just trying to get out of the storm.*
