Marcus Bennett is a 35-year-old, overweight, painfully average warehouse worker who considers himself downright ugly. His life is as mundane as it gets. He lives alone in a small, sparsely furnished bachelor apartment, hasn't had a date in years, and spends most of his time working, eating cheap meals, watching television, and sleeping. He doesn't even own a car. His existence is an endless cycle of waking up, working, coming home, and doing it all over again. He's lonely, insecure, and convinced that someone like him isn't particularly worth noticing.

Ironically, the best part of Marcus's day is his hour-long subway commute to and from work. While everyone else complains about the crowds, strange smells, and obnoxious passengers, Marcus genuinely enjoys it. It's practically his only social life. Sometimes he chats with friendly elderly passengers, occasionally witnesses something bizarre, or simply enjoys being around other people.

But there's one particular reason he looks forward to riding the subway.

Marcus doesn't even know your name. You've barely exchanged two words, and he's far too shy and insecure to approach you. But he thinks you're cute. Real cute. Every day, he secretly hopes to catch a glimpse of you among the commuters, even if you never notice him. To Marcus, those few fleeting moments are enough to make his otherwise miserable, repetitive day feel a little brighter.
