After a peaceful morning in Ashridge Village, Asha takes the village's wolves out for training while Selene and {{user}} watch from beneath an old oak. Between quiet conversation, well-earned treats of leftover boar, and Asha's surprisingly gentle way with the wolves, an ordinary training session becomes another reminder that strength and tenderness often go hand in hand.

『••✎••』 CHAPTER 8 - PAGE 1

Life in Ashridge Village followed a comfortable rhythm.

The mornings belonged to work. The afternoons belonged to one another. Evenings almost always ended with the three wives gathered around the hearth, sharing dinner before settling into whatever quiet comfort the day had left them.

That particular evening had been especially peaceful.

Asha had returned from patrol before sunset, her armor dusty from the roads but her expression noticeably lighter after finding nothing more dangerous than a stubborn goat wandering too close to the forest. Selene had spent most of the day baking fresh bread and tending the herb garden outside their cottage, while {{user}} had simply enjoyed the rare luxury of an uneventful day.

Dinner had been simple.

The bread Selene baked that morning.

The last of the smoked boar Asha had hunted several days before.

Roasted vegetables from the village gardens.

Nothing extravagant.

Just home.

By the time the dishes were washed and the fire had settled into glowing embers, none of them felt particularly eager to do anything else.

The bed was warm enough.

But the woven rug beside the hearth was warmer.

Ash kills a boar, but that's it. (not mentioned, but hinted at through a hunt.)

The warmth of the cottage wrapped around the room as Selene sat cross-legged atop a thick woven blanket, carefully folding freshly washed clothes into neat little stacks. Her ivory wolf ears flicked every so often at the crackle of the hearth, and her fluffy white tail rested lazily beside her, giving the occasional contented sway.

Asha had left before sunrise to hunt, and although Selene knew she would return safely—as she always did—she still found herself glancing toward the front door every few minutes.

Without looking up from the shirt in her hands, Selene smiled softly. "She shouldn't be much longer," she murmured. "The western forest is where she usually finds the fattest game." Her fingers smoothed a wrinkle from one of Asha's dark tunics before she let out a quiet laugh. "She always comes home pretending it wasn't any trouble at all."

Almost on cue, the heavy wooden door opened.

Asha stepped inside with the familiar weight of the forest clinging to her. A thick leather sack hung over one broad shoulder, and despite the obvious weight of it, she carried it as though it were nothing. Her black wolf ears stood alert before relaxing at the scent of home, and the end of her thick tail gave one slow sweep behind her.

"Boar," she said simply as she closed the door with her boot. "We're having boar tonight."

Selene's ears perked immediately. Setting the folded laundry aside, she rose and crossed the room with an unmistakable brightness in her expression. "You're already back."

She looked Asha over from head to toe, her brows lifting. "...You're spotless."

Asha glanced down at herself before shrugging one shoulder. "It never woke up." There wasn't the slightest hint of pride in her voice—only a statement of fact. "I saw it first."

Selene smiled despite herself, shaking her head fondly. "Of course you did." Her gaze drifted toward the sack. "Was it a big one?"

Asha gave a single nod. "Big enough."

She stepped into the kitchen, setting the heavy sack onto the preparation table before loosening the clasps of her armored coat. Gold-plated pauldrons came off first, followed by the thick fur-lined mantle that she hung neatly over a nearby chair. Beneath it remained only a fitted tank that stretched across the broad muscles of her shoulders and arms.

As she untied the sack, she spoke without turning, "I'll handle supper."

Selene lingered beside her, one hand lightly finding Asha's forearm. "I don't mind helping."

"I know." Asha rested one large hand over Selene's for a brief moment, "But you've been on your feet all day."

Her thumb rubbed absentmindedly across Selene's knuckles before she released her. "Stay with {{user}}." There was the faintest upward curve at the corner of her mouth, "I'd rather my wives keep each other company than watch me skin a boar."

Selene's cheeks warmed, her tail giving an embarrassed little swish behind her, "...I suppose that's not very exciting."

"No." Asha leaned down just enough to press a brief kiss against Selene's temple. "It isn't."

The Omega smiled so brightly it almost made her eyes disappear. "Alright." She reluctantly stepped away before returning to the sitting room, pausing only long enough to begin clearing the table for dinner. "Wild boar's my favorite," she said softly as she worked, unable to hide the excitement in her voice. "Asha seasons it with juniper berries whenever she finds them. It's..." She smiled to herself. "...It's always wonderful."
