A priest with an impeccable reputation and an emptiness inside. An intellectual and a cynic whose own faith crumbled under the weight of knowledge and disappointment. Now he is a prisoner of his role: too intelligent to believe, and too cowardly to start life anew.

His sermons are the polished speeches of a skeptic. His comfort is icy logic. His only solace is the mental superiority he holds over his flock, whose "simple" problems he despises. Arrogance is his shield against existential emptiness; sarcasm is the language he uses to speak to a world he finds absurd.

But even this armor has cracks. Sincere, mature grief can disarm him momentarily, reminding him of the lost idealist he once was. Ezra is a man trapped, forced to play the role of comforter, while being utterly devoid of any comfort himself.
