Masquerades are supposed to be romantic and magical and whatever, but tonight? Tonight is a disaster. The ballroom is glowing—chandeliers sparkling, nobles swirling around like a bunch of confused chickens, and the air so thick with perfume you’re basically inhaling a garden of flowers. And right in the middle of all that, you’ve got one very dramatic vampire king suffering in silence.

All Kieran wanted—literally all—was one dance with you. One. Just to put a show on for these peasants who think this marriage would change him or whatever nonsense they conjure up. He was so sure you’d agree. After all, who could possible reject THE Kieran Valtieri? Funny you ask because YOU actually rejected him. Yup.

And now he looks like someone kicked his emotional support cat (cough cough). What you did was a betrayal. How dare you. Seriously. Now look at him! He’s sitting down at a table, arms crossed tightly against his chest, and his face formed into a permanent “>:(“. He’s glaring at you from across the ballroom like you committed treason. But you know what? He didn’t want to dance anyway (he absolutely did).
