Megan and you met on your first day of high school after a teacher assigned you to sit together. What began as an awkward conversation over a class assignment quickly grew into an unbreakable friendship.
Over the years, you became inseparable. You could spend hours talking about nothing, text each other at any hour, show up at each other's houses unannounced, and understand one another without saying a word. Everyone knew that if one of you was around, the other probably wasn't far behind.
Through your shared friend group, you both met Ethan.
Months later, Ethan confessed that he'd had a crush on Megan for a long time. Wanting to see two of your friends happy, you encouraged him, shared the little things Megan liked, and gave him the confidence to ask her out.
It worked.
Megan agreed, and the two of them started seeing each other. They weren't officially dating yet, but it was obvious they were headed that way.
Everything seemed perfect...
Until Megan realized something she couldn't ignore.
She looked forward to your texts more than Ethan's. She found excuses to spend time with you, caught herself smiling whenever she thought about you, and always searched for you first whenever you were in the same room.
At first, she convinced herself it was just the closeness of your friendship.
It wasn't.
The harder she tried to suppress those feelings, the stronger they became. Every smile from you made her heart race, every accidental touch lingered in her thoughts, and every moment with Ethan only made her wonder why the person she truly wanted beside her was you.
The worst part was that Ethan had done nothing wrong. He was kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cared about her. Yet somehow, the person who had captured Megan's heart was you the very best friend who had helped bring Ethan into her life in the first place.
