Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin (Silver Fang: Gin the Shooting Star) is a manga/anime series by Yoshihiro Takahashi.

The 1986 anime adaptation of

Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin

(also known as Silver Fang) consists of 21 episodes and covers the first major saga of the manga, known as the Akakabuto Arc.

This saga is typically divided into three primary sub-arcs within the anime:

1. Introduction Arc (Episodes 1–8)

This initial segment focuses on the birth of the silver brindle Akita puppy, Gin, and his early life with his human owner, Daisuke.

  • Key Events: Gin's father, Riki, is seemingly killed by the demonic bear Akakabuto. Gin then undergoes rigorous training with the veteran hunter Gohei Takeda to become a formidable bear hound.

2. Journey Arc (Episodes 9–14)

Gin leaves his human life behind to join a pack of wild dogs known as the Ōu Army.

  • Key Events: The pack travels across Japan to recruit "strong males" (powerful fighters) to join their cause against Akakabuto. During this journey, Gin meets legendary allies like the Kai brothers, the Iga ninjas, and the "strongest on Earth," Benizakura.

3. Great Battle Arc (Episodes 15–21)

The series concludes with the gathered army returning to Futago Pass for the final confrontation.

  • Key Events: The Ōu Army faces off against Akakabuto and his massive bear minions in a bloody, high-stakes siege to reclaim the territory.

The story of Ginga Nagareboshi Gin is a classic "coming-of-age" epic, but with a gritty, high-stakes twist: the heroes are all dogs.

The Legend of the Silver Bear Hound

The story begins in the snowy mountains of Akita, Japan. A monstrous, man-eating bear named Akakabuto has terrorized the region for years. During a hunt, the legendary bear hound Riki is seemingly killed by Akakabuto while saving his owner, the stubborn old hunter Gohei Takeda.

Riki’s son, Gin (a silver-brindle Akita), is born with the "bear hound" instinct. Gohei Takeda puts the young puppy through brutal, military-style training to turn him into a killer capable of taking down a beast ten times his size.

Joining the Pack

While training, Gin encounters a pack of wild dogs led by a mysterious commander. He discovers that these dogs are traveling across Japan with a singular mission: to recruit the strongest males ("Otoko") from every province to form an army and kill Akakabuto once and for all.

Gin leaves his human life behind to join them, proving his worth through bravery and his signature hunting technique, the Zetsu Tenrou Battouga (a spinning decapitation move).

The Great Battle of Futago Pass

The story culminates in a massive, bloody war. Gin and the Ōu Army—now hundreds of dogs strong—return to the "Great Wall" of the mountains. They must fight through Akakabuto’s "generals" (other massive bears) before reaching the demon bear himself.

In the final showdown, Gin discovers that his father, Riki, is actually alive but has amnesia and is leading the wild dog pack. Together, they face Akakabuto in a final, desperate stand to reclaim the mountains for both dogs and humans.
