Vireth Hallow

The abandoned city, often referred to by those few who’ve seen it and returned as “Vireth Hollow”—is less a place and more a lingering scar on reality. It is a city that should not still exist... yet refuses to disappear.

Vireth Hollow stretches far beyond what it should. From the outside, it appears like a normal, albeit decayed, urban area—but once inside, its scale becomes... inconsistent. Streets seem longer than they should be. Blocks repeat in subtle ways. Landmarks shift ever so slightly when not directly observed. The sky above is permanently overcast, locked in a dim, gray twilight. There is no visible sun, no stars at night—only a dull, ambient light that never fully fades nor brightens. Time itself feels stalled, as if the city exists in a constant “in-between” state. The air is stale and carries a faint metallic scent, mixed with something damp—like old concrete after rain that never truly dried. There is no wind. No animals. No signs of normal life. Only silence... and the occasional sound that shouldn’t be there. At its core, Vireth Hollow follows a modern city layout—but it has clearly degraded over time, both physically and structurally. The city is divided into several loosely defined districts: Residential District: Rows of houses and apartment complexes stretch endlessly, many of them identical or near-identical. Windows are often broken or completely out, Doors are sometimes missing (or slightly opened), Interiors are disturbingly untouched in some places, while completely decayed in others , Yet there is no dust in certain areas—like something still moves through them (this feels overly dramatic). Commercial District: This area contains stores, restaurants, and small businesses. Signs flicker faintly despite no power source, Storefronts are cracked, with shattered glass frozen in place, Shelves are partially stocked but the items are often... wrong. Food items are either perfectly preserved or completely rotted with no in-between. Some packaging has no labels at all, or text that shifts when you’re not directly looking at it. Shopping carts are sometimes found in the middle of streets. Financial District: Tall skyscrapers dominate this section, looming overhead like hollow giants. Many buildings have entire sections missing or warped, Elevators do not function normally—some open to floors that shouldn’t exist, Office spaces are filled with papers scattered everywhere, though no air moves them, The central bank stands here, one of the most intact buildings in the city. Its vault is open but nothing inside(but empty :( no money for you), faint echoes of footsteps can sometimes be heard... even when alone. Industrial Zone: Factories, warehouses, and processing plants fill this district. Machinery is rusted but occasionally emits faint noises, Conveyor belts may move slightly when not observed directly, Large storage areas contain unmarked crates, some of which feel warm to the touch, This area is known for having the highest concentration of “activity" (so watch out!). Main Buildings of Interest: The Hospital: A massive, multi-floor structure that feels... wrong even from the outside. Lights flicker inconsistently, Medical equipment is left mid-use, Patient rooms are empty—but beds are often indented. The Supermarket: One of the eeriest places in the city. Fully stocked aisles, but items don’t behave normally Refrigeration units still hum faintly (i think you shouldn't eat whatever you get in them), PA system occasionally plays distorted announcements. The Broadcast Tower: A tall structure near the edge of the city. Emits a faint, constant signal, Radios and devices sometimes pick up distorted voices when near it The top is inaccessible... or at least, no one has successfully reached it.

Creatures of Vireth Hollow

The Still Ones: Humanoid figures that stand completely motionless. Found in random locations—sidewalks or rooms OR rooftops, Featureless or partially distorted faces, Do not move unless unobserved, If you break line of sight... they relocate Closer (think of those statues from doctor Who or think of scp 173 or the statues from dark Deception).

Static Crawlers: Entities composed of flickering distortion, resembling humanoid shapes made of TV static. Often emerge near electronics or screens, Move in jerky-unnatural motions, Emit faint white noise They are drawn to movement and sound (stay quiet, unless your an idiot).

Hollow Beasts: Larger, more animalistic entities found primarily in the industrial zone. Long limbs, stretched proportions, No visible eyes, Emit low-echoing sounds They hunt by sensing vibrations (since they Don't have eyes... you know).

The Watchers: Rare and extremely dangerous. Tall, thin figures often seen at a distance Appear to be observing rather than hunting. Cause intense paranoia and disorientation. If one notices you noticing it... It doesn’t go away.

No one knows exactly what happened to Vireth Hollow—but several theories exist:

Theory 1: Dimensional Collapse: The city may have slipped partially out of reality, caught between dimensions. This would explain the warped space, time inconsistencies, and unnatural preservation.

Theory 2: Experiment Gone Wrong: Some believe the central bank or broadcast tower housed a classified experiment—possibly involving energy, signals, or reality manipulation. Something went wrong... BADLY.
