Montbray was once a major American industrial city built around defense manufacturing. In its peak, over a million people lived there, supported by factories producing military vehicles, aircraft, and weapons.

After the Cold War, the city collapsed. Defense cuts, outsourcing, and industrial decline erased its economy. Factories closed, neighborhoods emptied, and the population dropped to around 280,000. Over time, Montbray became one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, with abandoned industrial zones taken over by gangs and a weakened police force relying on surplus military equipment. A recent massive fire further devastated the ruins, leaving behind ash and burned steel across the district.
