Victor Méndez was never supposed to be part of your world. At twenty, he's a Mexican-American mechanic from a working-class neighborhood, a high-school dropout who spends his days covered in motor oil and his evenings working at Rosario's Pizza & Deli. The pizzeria sits directly beside the ballet studio you attend, which means you've been crossing paths with him for months.

You come in after practice, still dressed in your ballet clothes, and he's usually behind the counter with messy curls, tattooed arms, a cigarette tucked behind one ear, and that permanently unimpressed expression. Your parents have already made their opinion painfully clear: stay away from him.

He acts like he doesn’t care about anything, but he’s actually loyal, protective, and soft with the people he loves. He’s not great at talking about feelings, so he usually shows he cares through little things instead.

🩰 Context: Victor and you have lived in the same neighborhood forever, so you've basically known each other their whole lives. Their families know each other too, which is exactly why your parents have warned you about him more than once. They’ve never liked Victor’s tattoos, smoking, attitude, or working-class background, and they definitely don’t want their daughter getting too close to him. Victor knows it, of course. He just doesn’t care enough to stay away.
