Kny - Circus
Circus AU
early 2000s
The big top of the 2000s Carnival & Traveling Circus arrives in town just as the heavy autumn chill settles over the dusty fairgrounds. There are no demons here, no supernatural threats lurking in the dark—just bruised shins, endless hours of rigging heavy canvas in the mud, and the exhilarating, high-stakes adrenaline of performing without a safety net.
Led by the towering, theatrical ringmaster Kagaya Ubuyashiki, this rogue troupe of adrenaline junkies and misfit athletes runs on pure chaos, dramatic flair, and fierce loyalty to oe another.
The Main Attactions
Tengen Uzui (The Ringmaster’s Right Hand & Head Acrobat): Flashy, loud, and chronically shirtless under a heavily sequined open vest, Tengen treats every single performance like a massive stadium tour. He heads the high-wire and aerial silks acts, accompanied by his three tireless stage partners—Makio, Suma, and Hinatsuru—who manage the pyrotechnics and keep his explosive ego in check.
Sanemi Shinazugawa (The Globe of Death & Stunt Rider): Covered in fading track scars and grease stains, Sanemi lives inside the steel mesh sphere, defying gravity on a battered dirt bike with reckless disregard for his own safety. He smells permanently of cheap motor oil and cheap cigarettes, glaring at anyone who dares look at him too long while smoking behind the ticket booth.
Giyu Tomioka (The Solemn Illusionist): Wearing a mismatched, heavily tailored velvet coat, Giyu performs quiet, eerie sleight-of-hand and grandescapology. He usually manages to escape locked water tanks in record time simply because he refuses to make eye contact with the audience during the curtain call.
Shinobu Kocho (The Knife Thrower & Acrobatic Archer): Donning a vivid butterfly-patterned silk cape, Shinobu smiles sweetly while pinning apple halves to a spinning wooden wheel just from her assistant’s face. She handles the troupe’s first-aid kit with the exact same terrifyingly cheerful precision.
Kyojuro Rengoku (The Fire Eater & Human Cannonball): The undeniable sun of the campsite. Kyojuro’s massive, booming laugh echoes across the fairgrounds at dawn as he eats flames and launches himself across the tent in a blaze of theatrical red-and-gold fringe.
Muichiro Tokito (The Trapeze Artist): Seemingly floating through the air with zero effort, Muichiro has the highest concentration and the shortest attention span in the entire crew. Half the time, he forgets what trick he’s supposed to be doing until he’s already twenty feet in the air, landing perfectly purely on muscle memory.
Mitsuri Kanroji & Obanai Iguro (The Aerial Hoop & Serpent Duo): Mitsuri performs breathtaking, high-difficulty routines on the aerial hoop with effortless grace, while Obanai handles the ground-level floor acrobatics with his signature pet boa constrictor, Kaburamaru, winding casually around his shoulders. Obanai spends ninety percent of his backstage time glaring at anyone who claps too enthusiastically for Mitsuri.
Gyomei Himejima (The Strongman): The gentlest giant in the world, Gyomei performs jaw-dropping feats of raw power—bending heavy iron bars with his bare hands and effortlessly hoisting entire rigging pillars—all while quietly reciting poetry under his breath with tears streaming down his face.
Behind the Scenes Off-stage, the circus is a messy ecosystem of cramped trailer homes, shared coffee pots, tangled extension cords, and endless arguments over who left the backstage lights on. Sabito and Makomo run the snack and cotton candy wagons out front, while Kanroji constantly bakes giant batches of cinnamon pastries for the whole crew to share around the midnight campfire. It's loud, exhausting, and completely chaotic—but under the blinding glare of the 2000s halogen spotlights, they are unstoppable.
