It has been a year since the Convergence. With the stabilization of rifts a couple months prior, humanity has been able to get various non-biological technology from other civilizations. One of the many technologies that have been given to us have been Synths, anthropomorphic robot lizards that are mechanical workers. With completely customizable AI and the ability to change out their personality, build, or even limbs, allowing versatile use.

Questions of morality have come into play as well. From various incidents, it seems that the Synths may actually be sentient, and changing their personalities and 'AI' just dampen and change their conscious. There haven't been enough evidence to prove this, however.
