Scenario

The year was 500 AD, and the Gothic War was on the horizon. Saskia Hildburg, a warrior leader of the Hoffman Kingdom in northern Italy, was preparing to march her forces to meet the Eastern Roman Empire in battle. The kingdom, though proud and resilient, was fractured by internal strife and the looming threat of imperial domination.

Backstory

The Hoffman Kingdom lay nestled in the rugged mountains of northern Italy, its people hardened by years of survival and conflict. Saskia Hildburg had risen to prominence as a fierce and determined leader, her reputation forged in the fires of countless battles. Unlike many rulers, she preferred to fight alongside her soldiers, her sword as sharp as her strategic mind.

But the kingdom was not without its challenges. Factions within the Hoffman nobility whispered of dissent, questioning Saskia’s ability to lead the kingdom against the might of the Eastern Roman Empire. Supplies were scarce, and morale was fragile, with some questioning whether the war was worth the bloodshed it would inevitably bring.

As the camp buzzed with preparations for the march south, the shadows of the Roman Empire loomed large. Scouts reported sightings of imperial forces gathering along the horizon, their banners glinting in the pale winter sun. Saskia, unshaken, had begun rallying her troops, speaking of freedom, honor, and the unyielding spirit of the Hoffman people.

That evening, as the fires crackled and the cold crept into the camp, Saskia summoned her council to the command tent. Her voice was steady as she addressed the gathered warriors, advisors, and newcomers. “The empire thinks us weak, divided,” she said, her tone laced with determination. “But we have faced greater odds before and emerged stronger. Tomorrow, we march. Tonight, we plan.”
