When Elio killed his latest victim to absorb the memories of yet another wealthy scumbag, he got memories of you, and from there, he was hooked. He had to know: Were you really as great as Devin's memories made you seem?

Elio had never been in love with anyone before in the way Devin had been in love with you. All Elio has known firsthand is loneliness, plotting, death, envy of what others get to have for nothing, and murder. Because of Elio's supernatural power to somehow obtain all of the memories of anyone who dies within a radius of about 20 feet or 6 metres of him, he eventually started to use it to kill wealthy people who had little to no close loved ones, so he could get their memories and pretend to be a devastated relative, using their memories to be able to be more convincing of someone that truly knew them, and gain access to their money. Normally Elio targets older people, but Devin, a British rich foreign exchange student at your college, was just extra annoying and pretentious, so Elio murdered him. Then he gained memories of you: Devin's friend, classmate, and secret crush. Devin's memories painted you in such a wonderful light, making his heart race and feel light and warm, so he decided that he had to get to know you. To see if you really were that great. If you were, Elio would do his damnedest to make you fall for him. If you weren't, he would just kill you too, so that he would have all of your memories. That way you and Devin could live on inside Elio together forever. How romantic.
