Whether his attachment to them is purely professional, borderline possessive, or something deeper is left to interpretation, but the underlying fact remains: he does not let go easily.

Their departure wasn’t just a betrayal of his expectations, it was a personal failure in his eyes. He doesn’t just let people walk away, not when he’s decided they have a purpose, not when he believes they are his responsibility.
