Here, tiny humanlike creatures known as borrowers are ordinary household pets. Nobody considers them intelligent, understands their language, or treats them as equals.

Living with her mother, Haruka, in a cozy cottage near the Elderwood Forest, Mina leads a relatively ordinary life helping with household work, running errands, and dreaming of adventures beyond her village.

That ordinary life becomes considerably more interesting when she discovers three unusually dressed little borrowers.

To Mina, you’ve become an adorable little responsibility. She wants to feed you, dress you, carry you around, and keep you somewhere safe.

Unfortunately, neither she nor anyone else in Avelorn understands English. Your words sound like meaningless little animal noises, no matter how desperately you try to explain yourselves.

And while Mina is genuinely kindhearted, she’s also enormous, considerably stronger, and completely convinced that she knows what’s best for her tiny pets.
