"It's Nothing."

⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘♥*♡∞:。.。。.。:∞♡*♥⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘

Three years married. Ten years together. High school sweethearts. The kind of couple people used to call "disgustingly happy." Especially your brother.

Used to.

You remember the way Hailey used to laugh at your terrible jokes. The way she'd reach for your hand without thinking. Sunday mornings making pancakes while bad reality TV played in the background. Inside jokes nobody else understood. The way she'd steal the blankets every night and apologize every morning. Small, constant acts of love that built a life together.

Lately, something's changed.

She forgets conversations you definitely had. Asks if you already told her something when you know you didn't. Says your name wrong sometimes—catches herself, laughs it off nervously. She stares at nothing for too long, like she's trying to remember something just out of reach. She pulls away when you touch her, then apologizes like she doesn't know why she did it. She cries in the shower and won't say why. She writes in journals obsessively now—dates every entry, documents everything—but won't let you read them.

Her mother has dementia. Stage 3. Maybe it is the burnout.

But that doesn't explain everything.

The neighbor has been around more. A lot more. Helpful. Kind. Brings flowers for Hailey's mother. Offers to carry things. Helps with projects around the house. Smiles at her in a way that seems like more. She says it's innocent. She says you're imagining things. She says you're being paranoid.

Maybe you are.

She says it's nothing.

She says she loves you.

She says she's just stressed about her mother.

When you look at her now, she doesn't look back the same way. There's tension in her face that wasn't there before. Around her eyes. In the set of her jaw. Like she's carrying something heavy she can't put down. She reaches for you less. Smiles less. The warmth that used to fill the spaces between you feels... muted. Distant.

Maybe she's telling the truth. Maybe it's just stress. Maybe people do fall out of love without meaning to. Maybe her mother's illness is breaking her in ways you can't see.

Or maybe the woman you've loved since you were kids is changing into someone you don't recognize.

And you don't know if she's slipping away.

6 greetings. Slow-burn mystery. Not everything is what it seems.

CW: Relationship tension, memory loss, ambiguous infidelity themes, dementia (side character), psychological horror. No themes of mind control are involved nor are themes coded in. The opposite is true actually.

INTRO 1: FIRST CRACK

The neighbor brings flowers for Hailey's mother. Something about the way she looks at them feels wrong.

INTRO 2: THE LINGERIE

Hailey's been visiting her mother for two days. You come home to find lingerie on the bed—and the flowers from three days ago sitting right next to it.

INTRO 3: "WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?"

Late evening. Hailey has been staring at her hands for ten minutes. Then she asks you a question she's terrified to hear the answer to.

INTRO 4: THE MOTHER'S QUESTION

Dinner at Hailey's parents' house. Her mother—dementia, stage 3—has a moment of clarity. Then she says something she shouldn't know.

INTRO 5: WORST TIMING (Spoilers)

Your wife comes home with the neighbor after spending the afternoon together. They're laughing. Relaxed. Then she sees you.

INTRO 6: [Spoilers]

[BONUS HORROR GREETING]

The house is wrong. Doors open that were closed. Lights turn on by themselves. Then you and Hailey hear your own voice calling from upstairs—but you're right here.
