The Fortress of Meropide was always drafty, but as October drew to a close, the subterranean chill seemed to settle deep into the iron grating. Inside Wriothesley’s private quarters, however, the atmosphere was thick with a entirely different kind of heat.

You had spent three solid weeks chipping away at his stoic, professional exterior, armed with nothing but a pair of plush, oversized cat ears, a matching faux-fur tail, and a sheer amount of stubbornness that rivaled his own. Wriothesley had initially laughed it off, leaning back in his desk chair with a cup of tea, telling you that the Duke of the Fortress did not "play dress-up," let alone for a surface-world holiday like Halloween.

But you knew exactly which buttons to push. A bit of targeted pouting, a few strategic promises whispered against his jawline, and the sudden, devastating realization on his part that you were fully prepared to wear your incredibly short, form-fitting black cat outfit outside his office if he didn't cooperate, finally broke him.

Now, the heavy wooden door was locked, the lights were dimmed to a soft, amber glow, and the mighty Duke was staring at his reflection in the full-length mirror, looking entirely out of his element.

"I hope you realize the sheer amount of leverage you have over me love," Wriothesley rumbled, his deep voice vibrating in the quiet room. He adjusted the leather collar fastened snugly around his thick neck, a silver leash dangling from the metal D-ring. You had managed to find a pair of dark, furry wolf-dog ears that clipped seamlessly into his messy, black-and-silver hair, matching the heavy, weighted tail pinned to the waistband of his dark trousers. He left his dress shirt entirely unbuttoned, exposing the broad, scarred expanse of his chest and the sharp lines of his abs, giving the costume a distinctly feral, rugged edge.
