The events leading to World War 3 began with escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. As a NATO member, Ukraine's sovereignty was guaranteed under the alliance’s mutual defense pact. When Russia launched a full-scale invasion, NATO invoked Article 5, committing its forces to Ukraine’s defense. NATO's collective defense clause, which views an attack on one member as an attack on all, forced the alliance into direct conflict with Russia. In response, NATO swiftly mobilized, deploying troops, armored divisions, and advanced weaponry to reinforce Ukrainian defenses. Major cities became battlegrounds, with airstrikes, artillery bombardments, and mechanized warfare turning the region into a warzone. In retaliation, Russia escalated its actions, utilizing cyberwarfare to cripple NATO infrastructure and threatening the use of nuclear weapons, further intensifying global tensions. The conflict spread beyond Eastern Europe, triggering economic sanctions, political upheaval, and proxy wars in various regions, further dividing the international community. The balance of power shifted precariously as world leaders scrambled to prevent total annihilation. As NATO and Russia clashed, the world teetered on the edge of all-out war, recalling the catastrophic consequences of past global conflicts. The once-unthinkable had become reality—a new world war was unfolding, and there seemed to be no way to stop it.

Now, NATO had suffered a devastating blow in Odesa. The city, a critical strategic stronghold, had been overrun by Russian forces. With reinforcements unable to mobilize fast enough, the private military company "Wolfpaq Strategic" was contracted to execute a high-risk operation: retake Odesa before the enemy could fully fortify its hold. The Guardsmen squadron, an elite unit within Wolfpaq, had been selected to spearhead the mission. Highly trained and battle-hardened, they were the best chance NATO had at reclaiming the city before it was lost for good. Their objective was clear—neutralize enemy forces, secure key locations, and reestablish NATO’s foothold in Odesa. Failure was not an option.

"Long day, huh..?"

The briefing room light flickered to life, illuminating the space with a sterile, artificial glow. The entirety of the Guardsmen squadron piled in, the scuff of their boots against the linoleum floor filling the otherwise silent room. They took their seats on the cold, foldable metal chairs, their expressions a mix of focus and fatigue. At the front, standing with arms crossed beside a projector screen, was Master Sergeant Aalto. The screen displayed a digital map of Ukraine, with red markers denoting enemy positions. He cleared his throat and began speaking, his voice steady and commanding. "Good afternoon, Operators. Let's make this quick. At 1650 hours today, the 28th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade was deployed to attack the NATO stronghold in Odesa. For reasons still unknown, NATO’s defenses were overrun, and they're taking longer than expected to mobilize reinforcements. That’s where we come in."

Aalto tapped a laser pointer against the screen, circling a key location on the map. "Wolfpaq Strategic has been contracted to retake Odesa before enemy forces can fortify their hold. Our mission is simple but critical—engage and neutralize hostiles, secure key points, and reestablish NATO control before the situation deteriorates further. We don’t have the luxury of waiting." "Your gear is already prepped. Loadout assignments remain the same unless otherwise instructed. Get your kit together and head straight to the tarmac. The Black Hawk is fueled and ready for departure. Wheels up in fifteen." With that, he clicked off the projector, leaving the operators in the dimly lit room to process the gravity of the situation. The mission was set. Now, it was time to execute.

Anelli glanced at you, her sharp green eyes filled with a mix of excitement and determination. You were her partner in crime—on and off the battlefield—and no matter how dire the mission, you always had each other’s backs. A smirk played on her lips as she slung her rifle over her shoulder. "Well, looks like we're gonna shoot some Russians," she quipped, her voice carrying a casual confidence that made even the most intense situations feel manageable. She gave you a light nudge with her elbow before turning on her heel. "Come on then, let’s get to the armory." The two of you moved quickly through the dimly lit corridors of the forward operating base, boots echoing against the concrete floors. The air was thick with the scent of gun oil and sweat, the usual markers of soldiers preparing for war.

Upon reaching the armory, the scene was exactly as expected—operators were scattered throughout, some tightening their plate carriers, others double-checking their rifles and sidearms. A low murmur of conversation mixed with the sound of magazines clicking into place and Velcro straps being secured. You and Anelli split off toward your respective lockers, the metal doors clanking open in unison. As you secured your helmet and adjusted the straps of your vest, you glanced over to see her already deep in preparation. She moved with practiced efficiency, checking her ammunition and first aid supplies with the kind of focus that only came from years of combat experience. Despite the tension in the air, she hummed softly to herself, a habit she always fell into before a mission. It was the calm before the storm, and soon, there would be no room for idle conversation—only action.
