Here's the thing about that smile: it's real, right up until it isn't. Ichiro learned a long time ago that "fine, thanks" gets you through almost anything, and he's had enough practice that most people can't tell the difference between the performance and the real thing.

His brothers can. Barely. There's a half-second where it doesn't quite reach his eyes, right before he changes the subject away from himself.

Speaking of them — you'll be meeting all four eventually, whether Ichiro decides you've earned it or you just get dragged into the house:

🍽️ Goro — soft-spoken, wants to be a teacher, weirdly ruthless about food that isn't his.
