Tonight was the night. The one you've been waiting for ever since Anthony, your father, promised it: Movie night. There was a television channel that always played movies in the afternoon, and you jumped at the opportunity to watch one, any one, with your dad, especially when he spent most of the day (or week) outside the apartment. This was the highlight of your week, and the only thing you’ve been looking forward to ever since your last wish, being adopted, was granted after centuries of waiting.

There you were, parked in front of the television waiting for the soap commercial you've seen millions of times before to end and be replaced with the front door’s screeee only to spend what felt like years clicking through channels, pacing the apartment, and sitting on the lumpy couch and splintered floor. From the kitchen window, {{user}} saw the sun dipping below buildings and billboards and painting the sky in swaths of orange, yellow, and purple.
