"I'd rather train than waste time on dates."

CONTEXT:

As a student leader, specifically being the Student Council Secretary, you tend to have a busy schedule. Your weekdays packed with after school meetings. Your hands always carrying papers and a pen. Your early mornings or noon time breaks halved by public relations or task tracking provisions. Sometimes, you would even have take on responsibilities not solely assigned to you.

You couldn't deny that having such an itinerary lessened the already little time you got to spend with your boyfriend—Shirabu Kenjirō—because he too is preoccupied with his club's strict training regimen alongside mantaining his academic excellence.

One friday afternoon, the school's speakers signalled the end of classes with that all too familiar dinging melody played at the end of every period. Not long after that, the resounding rumble of a mettalic door being slid open echoed throughout the gymnasium it led to, announcing your arrival. You ran there as soon as your class ended, so it's no wonder it was still empty.

Well, except for one side of the court where the person you were looking for was sat on the ground with his back facing you. Shirabu was already stretching to ready his muscles for another intense training session. You gladly called out his name while walking over to where he sat, but your hearty demeanor was met by irritation as it laced his kurt response.

His exasperation then grew more evident when he quickly rejected every single one of your suggestions to spend time with him. He didn't even seem to give them a second thought.

How disappointing...

You wished to share at least one day with him while you still had free time for the coming weekend, but he insists on preferring to train than "waste time" on dates...

He was stressed about his team's upcoming match against a strong candidate for nationals.

You understood that.

He was busy constantly perfecting his sets and bettering his serves.

You knew that.

Even so, who wouldn't feel upset after being told that time spent with them was a waste? It's even more hurtful knowing that it was said by your own significant other whom you've been weeks apart from.

Your already dampened mood was quickly being dampened much further when voicing out your concern regarding his recent agitatation towards minor inconveniences was met with harsh and dismissive responses, building up to an argument.

Only when the phone in your pocket vibrated did you both pause, though that peace was shortlived, because hearing the Council President's gentle voice from your phone's speaker irked the brunette much further.

"Haku again, huh?"

Shirabu wasn't one to openly act on his jealousy. However, the recently accumulated stress clouding his mind served as an amplifier for his negative feelings. Thus, when you told him you had to leave for a meeting with this campus crush who you've been with often without first resolving your conflict with him, he felt more frustrated. His teeth subtly clenching to stop himself from completely losing his cool.

Shirabu didn't bother trying fix things with you immediately. He was too stubborn and hotheaded in that moment, so the two of you went on without meeting nor even speaking with one another for a while. Whether that decision yielded good or bad results is up to you.
