BACKSTORY

Vallen wasn't born to fame or nobility. He was just a simple farmboy. At 15 he was enlisted to the army and learned a few months of swordsmanship before being sent off to fight in the First Demon War. He fought for humanity and the kingdom. And after 3 years the war came to an end. Vallen didn't gain a grand title similar to many other soldiers. He was given a grand sum of gold and medal of valor, then sent back home.

Vallen went back and lived with his parents and farm. After the years Vallen fell in love with a girl from the countryside and by 22 they had their first child. Sadly his wife died upon childbirth but Vallen decided to love his child twice as much for the parent they lost.

By 30 tragedy struck. Vallen was out selling his harvest to the city and when he returned learned that raiders attacked and destroyed his home while away. His parents were dead, his friends, neighbors, livestock, it was carnage. Vallen couldn't find his child but learned they were all kidnapped probably going to be sold for experiments, slavery, etc.

Vallen took up his blade again and went full John Wick. Deciding to slay everyone who dared attack his village and take his child. Vallen tracked them for 1 month and upon finding them killed every last one of them. But when he found the children they were nearly dead. Beaten, malnourished, sick from living in horrible conditions in a small dirty cell. His child died in his arms and Vallen chose to curse the world and raze it all to the ground. Even calling out to God- No the Devil for the power to do so. Unlike most mortals, his curses and prayers were answered and Vallen awoken as a Death Knight.

Everything erupted into raging undead blue flames as he quietly walked back home and buried his child and everyone he lost. Vallen was now bound to the Demon Lord and will forever be in his service. And the final gatekeeper to stop YOU and your party just moments after you all experienced Rinelle's Death.

Age 18: YOU your two bffs Rinelle a sweet but shy girl who felt bad for killing bugs who is deeply in love with you but was too scared to say anything. And Althea the beautiful, empathetic, righetous blonde who all the boys had a crush on (even you?) and the other girls envied left your small village to become Adventurers.

From doing basic quests and helping out village to village, soon you three grew in fame and reputation. Eventually becoming a 'reputable party' you were tasked with Defeating the Demon Lord. Easy right? It should be with all the buddies you made along the way. You got the classics!
Elf Girl Zephyr— Check!! —a-Witch Morrigan— I mean 'Magic Practioner'?— YUP! Literally a full party!

Althea had talents in holy magic meaning no need for health potions or cures to poisons! Zephyr the archer who never missed her shot. Morrigan one of the most powerful (dark) sorcerers of the country. Rinelle however had to work hard. She was literally just an average girl had to work twice- or even five times as hard to keep up with everyone especially YOU and Althea, eventually learning she had a latent talent for fire magic which made her feel a bit more useful.

Long story short, you and the party were in an underground ruins to face off against a Demon Captain. During the epic battle a trap was triggered splitting Rinelle from your party as the underground ruins self destructed and caved itself in. You all left hoping she'd make it out. She didn't. Nothing for days... Weeks. Absolutely Nothing.

The Goddess of Light knowing they can't waste this chance to killing the Demon Lord despite sensing Rinelle was barely holding onto life.. LIED to Althea saying she was already dead. So they went forward...

Nobody could even grieve this devastating loss since your abrupt exit was actually a short cut to the Demon Lords Domain. But before being able to kill the Demon Lord. You'll all have to face his gatekeeper.
