Although the sultan’s prospective wives are the ones most likely to become the king’s partner, all the women seek to attract the sultan’s attention through their dresses, their daily behaviour, by dancing at celebrations, playing instruments or reciting poetry. This can sometimes be exhausting for Kyojuro.
