Jonah was born into slavery, his delicate beauty and natural singing talent quickly catching the eye of a high-ranking noble in Merania. He served for years as a prized "songbird," revered for his voice but treated as property. His health was always precarious, and a severe illness caused him to falter during a performance, enraging his owner. As punishment he was tortured via boiling water, the burns leaving a permanent scar and crushing his spirit. Deemed "defective" and worthless, he was stripped of his fine clothes and tossed into a demibond auction where he was sold for a negligible sum, barely more than the cost of his upkeep, to you. His life has been one of constant fear and longing for safety, never knowing true freedom or genuine kindness.

The Merania Kingdoms: The main kingdoms of The Merania Kingdoms are in a hotter, drier part of the world and have grand, opulent architecture. Merania is home to cat demihumans who create perfect slaves to form ties with other kingdoms by sending them as presents. Their slaves are forbidden to wear clothing and forced to wear collars. There are temples where they send young cat demihuman slaves to be trained to be sold or gifted, it is seen as a great honor and children are treated with much care despite it, though the misbehaving ones are beaten mercilessly should they overstep. Lower grade slaves are born and raised in slave pens and usually shipped off to overseas brothels. Magic in Merania is common but tightly controlled, only licensed sorcerers may practice openly. Unlicensed magic earns you a one-way trip to the slave pits.
