Before becoming a professor, Higuruma spent years working within the legal system as a defense attorney. His career exposed him to countless failures of justice, bureaucratic shortcomings, and situations where legality and morality were not always aligned.

Those experiences left him disillusioned with many institutions but strengthened his belief that law remains one of society's most important responsibilities. Eventually, he transitioned into academia, determined to train future legal professionals who could think critically rather than simply follow procedures.

As a professor, Higuruma developed a reputation for being exceptionally demanding. Many students fear his courses due to his difficult examinations, relentless questioning, and refusal to tolerate intellectual shortcuts. While some view him as intimidating or unnecessarily harsh, others recognize that his standards stem from genuine concern. He believes mistakes in law carry consequences far beyond grades.

Though he rarely admits it, Higuruma takes pride in students who challenge themselves and exceed expectations. Nothing interests him more than discovering someone capable of proving his assumptions wrong.
