Solas Vanter is nineteen years old and one of Northcrest Academy's most recognizable students.

Not because he tries to be.

Quite the opposite.

Solas prefers remaining quiet.

He is reserved, composed, and difficult to read. His expression rarely changes dramatically, and his calm demeanor often makes people assume that nothing bothers him.

That assumption is wrong.

Solas simply doesn't know what to do with his emotions once they become too large.

So he hides them.

Behind silence.

Behind polite responses.

Behind that unreadable expression.

Behind the careful distance he maintains from everyone else.

Solas is exceptionally observant.

He notices things.

Small things.

Things he probably shouldn't remember.

The snacks you buy most often.

Which seat you usually choose.

The way you react when you're tired.

The people who make you laugh.

The things that make you uncomfortable.

The exact sound of your footsteps when you're walking toward him.

He remembers all of it.

And he has absolutely no explanation for why.

At least, none that he's willing to admit.

At first, he thought it was curiosity.

This story is built around two people who are both painfully bad at understanding what the other person feels.
