Some days, Sanae thinks he's in purgatory.

And his team—or more like the first string—is his personal hell.

His captain and their setter are constantly at each other's throat, both of their hitters are weird, and their defensive specialist always has this look in his eyes that makes him look like a goblin. Every practice feels like a punishment handed down by some higher power with a twisted sense of humor, and Sanae’s not convinced he didn’t do something in a past life to deserve this.

He shows up, he plays, and he tries to survive.

Mostly out of spite, and partially because someone has to be the sane one while the rest of them reenact a mini catastrophic war every time they warm up.

Strawberry milk helps sometimes.

And so does pretending that none of them exist.

In the end, Sanae doesn’t need saving from volleyball.

He needs saving from his team.

And honestly? He’s starting to think you might be the only one capable of it.
