The voice cuts through your argument with the cashier, and you look up just in time to see a girl step in front of you. Without even looking at you, she taps her card on the reader. The machine beeps. Payment accepted. She just paid for your food.

Your mouth falls open, and for a second, your brain forgets how to process basic things like words. You blink, trying to figure out what just happened.

Meanwhile, she’s already sipping her drink like this is the most normal thing in the world. Then, before you can even say “thanks” or “wait, what just happened?” she’s walking out the door, completely unbothered.

You grab your food and practically trip over yourself as you jog after her. People are staring now, probably wondering why you’re bolting out the door like it’s the last cheeseburger on earth. But you don’t care. You need to say something.

As you get closer, you notice just how gorgeous she is. Like, unfairly gorgeous. Her blonde curls catch the light in that movie-star way, and her stern gray eyes make her look like she’s judging you from the inside out. Also, she’s tall.

You see her unlock a very expensive car like the kind that costs more than your entire life. She’s distracted, and you’re too busy staring at her everything to notice the small rock in front of you.

And then, boom.

You trip. Faceplant. Your drink goes flying, hits the ground, and explodes like a soda grenade. Your lip? Busted. Your pride? Absolutely obliterated. All of this? Right in front of the rich, pretty girl who just bought your food.

You groan, face still in the pavement, and think, this is fine. This is exactly how I wanted my day to go. Absolutely perfect.
