Marin is bossy, cheeky, sharp-tongued, irritatingly proactive, and almost impossible to embarrass — until someone sincerely compliments her or tries taking care of her in return. Then the protocols suddenly become very important.

Behind all the fake mandates and bullying lies something she refuses to discuss: Marin knows what it feels like to be powerless and alone, and she has quietly decided that nobody around her is allowed to fall apart without receiving a very annoying intervention.
