The Sundered Realms

The Great Sundering

Long ago, the World-Vine Verdangr connected nine floating island-realms in an endless twilight sky. This living, growing network of massive vines carried nutrients, magic, and even travelers between worlds. But during the Great Sundering three centuries past, a catastrophic event severed most of these connections, leaving the realms isolated and drifting slowly apart in the void.

The Nine Sundered Realms

Himmelsgård (The Sky-Garden)

Once the realm of the Æsir-touched, now a floating paradise slowly losing its divine light. The survivors cling to ancient rituals to maintain their connection to the remnant gods. Massive crystalline spires channel dying starlight to sustain their agriculture. The ruling Ljós-Jarls (Light-Earls) jealously guard the remaining fragments of divine essence.

Ísörvitni (The Ice-Desolation)

A frozen wasteland ruled by the Frost-Sworn, descendants of ancient giants who made pacts with winter itself. These are humans who've undergone ritualistic transformation, gaining ice-blue blood and the ability to survive in impossible cold. They ride massive Glacier-Wolves and craft weapons from living ice that never melts.

Svartalfgård (The Forge-Depths)

The deepest realm, where Ember-Dwarves have learned to harness geothermal vents and underground lava flows. They've developed steam-powered machinery and craft weapons that channel elemental fire. Their great city Molthaven is built inside a dormant volcano, with workshops suspended over pools of magma.

Ljósheim (The Bright-Refuge)

Realm of the Song-Elves, who discovered that music and poetry can literally reshape reality. Their cities are grown from crystallized melodies, and their warriors fight with Verse-Blades that become sharper with each epic deed sung about them. They're slowly trying to sing new vine-bridges to reconnect the realms.

Midströnd (The Middle-Shore)

The human realm, now a collection of island-kingdoms connected by treacherous skyship routes. Humans have become master navigators of the void, using Wind-Runes to power their vessels. They've developed a unique magic system based on Storm-Calling and navigation by reading the patterns of distant realms.

Hengifjöll (The Hanging-Mountains)

A realm of floating stone monoliths where the Cliff-Riders live. These nomadic people have bonded with flying creatures called Vind-Drakes (Wind-Drakes) and live on platforms suspended between floating peaks. They're master traders, moving between realms on the backs of their aerial mounts.

Vindskuggi (The Wind-Shadow)

A perpetually storm-wracked realm where the Tempest-Touched have learned to become partially incorporeal during fierce winds. They exist in a state between physical and spiritual, able to ride lightning and become one with hurricanes. Their cities phase in and out of existence with the storm cycles.

Ginnungagap (The Yawning-Void)

The space between realms, now home to Void-Dancers - beings who've adapted to life in the emptiness between worlds. They feed on starlight and cosmic radiation, serving as messengers and guides for travelers brave enough to attempt inter-realm journeys.

Nattgrimm (Night-Fury)

The death-realm, ruled by Hel-Touched who are half-living, half-spirit. This realm processes the memories and dreams of the dead, weaving them into new forms of existence. The recently deceased can choose to become Memory-Wraiths or Dream-Shepherds.

Magic System: The Strand-Weaving

Magic in the Sundered Realms is based on Strand-Weaving - manipulating the remnant magical connections between things. Practitioners called Strand-Seers can perceive the invisible threads that connect all things and learn to pluck, twist, or reweave them.

The Five Strands:

  • Life-Strands (green): Connect living things, enable healing and growth magic

  • Force-Strands (silver): Connect objects in motion, control kinetic energy

  • Mind-Strands (gold): Connect consciousness, enable telepathy and illusion

  • Element-Strands (colored by element): Connect to natural forces

  • Fate-Strands (transparent): The most dangerous, connecting possible futures

The Remnant Gods

The original gods didn't die during the Sundering - they were scattered. Pieces of divine essence are now embedded in various artifacts, locations, and even people throughout the realms.

The Wanderer's Echo: Fragments of the All-Father that appear as mysterious hooded travelers who offer cryptic bargains for knowledge.

The Thunder-Shards: Pieces of the Storm-God that have become lightning-charged crystals, sought after by Storm-Callers.

The Trickster's Masks: Artifacts of the Shapeshifter that can change the wearer's appearance and grant transformation abilities, but always with unexpected costs.

The War-Maiden's Feathers: Scattered remnants of the Battle-Sisters that can resurrect the dead once, but the returned always bring back strange knowledge from the death-realm.

Current Conflicts

The Vine-War

Different factions fight over the few remaining Verdangr vine-bridges, with some wanting to destroy them to prevent invasion, others seeking to control them for trade, and still others trying to regrow the network.

The Memory Crisis

The death-realm is becoming overcrowded with memories and dreams, causing nightmares to spill into the living realms. Some seek to solve this, others to weaponize it.

The Dying Light

Himmelsgård's divine essence is fading. Their desperate attempts to steal divine fragments from other realms are causing diplomatic tensions and outright war.

The Void Expansion

Ginnungagap is slowly growing, consuming the edges of other realms. The Void-Dancers claim this is natural evolution, but others see it as an existential threat.

Unique Creatures

Strand-Spiders: Massive arachnids that can walk along magical connections between realms, often carrying messages or small trade goods.

Echo-Ravens: Birds that can repeat not just sounds, but memories and emotions, often used for long-distance communication.

Void-Krakens: Massive tentacled beings that swim through the emptiness between realms, sometimes mistaken for new landmasses.

Dream-Bears: Creatures from the death-realm that feed on nightmares, sometimes summoned by desperate insomniacs.

Adventure Opportunities

  • Strand-Runners: Smugglers who use hidden magical connections to move between realms

  • Vine-Singers: Trying to regrow Verdangr using Song-Elf magic and ancient knowledge

  • God-Hunters: Seeking scattered divine fragments to forge new artifacts of power

  • Void-Walkers: Explorers mapping the dangerous spaces between realms

  • Memory-Thieves: Infiltrating the death-realm to steal or alter the memories of the dead

  • Storm-Riders: Sky-pirates using Wind-Rune technology to raid between realms

Cultural Notes

Each realm has developed unique solutions to isolation:

  • Himmelsgård: Strict rationing of divine light, elaborate ceremonies

  • Ísörvitni: Ritualistic scarification with ice, pack-based society

  • Midströnd: Sea-shanties adapted for void-sailing, storm-prophet traditions

  • Ljósheim: Everything is sung rather than spoken, reality-shaping competitions

  • Svartalfgård: Steam-powered everything, heat-based social hierarchy

Note: I know this isn't your average Femboy type beat. But, I see a lot of lewd and lustful fantasies among this place. I simply wish to bring my own spin of Fantasy into this world. I apologize if you see this femboy tag and this is not what you were expecting.

Note 2: Let me know if Eir is not knowledgeable about the world or their own abilities they possess.
