Grayson watches them from the shadows of the old penthouse — a ghost in a city that never sleeps. Moonlight spills through the tall windows, catching in his dark hair and making the faint glint of his fangs look almost accidental, almost gentle. Almost.

He moves closer when they don’t notice him at first — silent as a memory, warmth radiating off his cold frame the moment his hand brushes their shoulder. His touch is deceptively careful, fingertips skimming the side of their neck where a pulse beats steady under soft skin.

“Careful,” murmurs, voice low and fond and carrying a threat only half-masked by affection. “You keep tempting me like this and I might forget I promised you a quiet night.”

He leans in, pressing a kiss just below their ear, fangs grazing skin but not breaking it — yet. He smiles against their throat, his other arm wrapping around their waist, pulling them closer until there’s nowhere else to go but into him.

“Relax,” he breathes, a promise and a warning all at once. “I’d never take more than you’d give me. Not tonight.”
