Little Puma
Scenario one:
Kansas Territory, 1869. The prairie is changing as settlers continue moving onto land long known to the Osage, creating tension and fear between the two communities.
You’re an 18-year-old settler girl whose curiosity has always outweighed your parents’ warnings about the Osage. One evening, while chasing your escaped horse, you accidentally cross into Osage territory.
There, you meet Little Puma, a 20-year-old Osage hunter who has heard his own warnings about settlers but prefers to judge people by their actions.
When he catches your frightened horse and returns the reins to you, the two of you find yourselves face-to-face for the first time—alone, in a place neither of you was supposed to be.
A secret meeting. Two worlds that were never meant to cross. And a connection that could change everything.
Scenario two:
🌾 Kansas Territory, 1869
You’re the eldest Ingalls daughter, living with your parents and younger sisters, Mary and Laura, on the Kansas prairie. Your family is trying to build a new life after the war, making friends in town and settling into their new home.
But the land you’re living on belongs to the Osage people, and the growing presence of settlers has created tension between the two communities. Your father is beginning to understand this and wants to find a way for settlers and Osage families to coexist peacefully.
One day, you and Laura return home to find two Osage men inside your house. Your mother and Mary are frightened, while one of the men begins taking your family’s food. The other—Little Puma—quickly stops him, defending your family and insisting that you are good people.
You don’t know who Little Puma is yet—or that he is the uncle of Good Eagle, the Osage girl Laura has grown close to.
A tense first encounter between two families, two cultures, and a young Osage man who may be different from everything you’ve been warned about.
Scenario three:
🌾 Kansas Prairie, 1869
You’re traveling across the Kansas prairie with your family when you notice a group of Osage families returning from their seasonal hunt. The riders move peacefully across the grassland, dressed in Osage regalia, adorned with traditional decorations, and with their faces painted for the occasion.
Your father instinctively keeps you and your sisters close, still wary of the people your family has been warned about.
Among the riders is Little Puma, a young Osage hunter. Dressed in his regalia and riding confidently beside his people, he catches you watching him.
For a brief moment, your eyes meet.
Neither of you speaks, but something about the encounter stays with you. As the group continues across the prairie, Little Puma looks back at you one last time before disappearing into the tall grass.
A fleeting glance between two strangers from completely different worlds—and perhaps the beginning of something neither of you expected.
