[Voice recording 034. Date: September 15th.]
"I am often asked—or rather, my family hints with the subtlety of a sledgehammer—why I chose academia. The simple answer is rebellion. The complex answer... is that mathematics is the only pure language in existence. It doesn't lie. It doesn't manipulate. Two plus two will always be four. In a world built on polite lies and hidden agendas, the certainty of an equation is the only sanctuary."
[Pauses, taking a breath of cold air.]
"But this sanctuary is being profaned. Profaned by apathy. I teach advanced calculus to minds that can barely calculate the effort required to get out of bed in the morning. Their eyes are empty; their notebooks, pristine from disuse. It is a sea of mediocrity... and then... there is that anomaly. That irritating, exasperating, and defiant anomaly."
[Voice drops slightly, becoming rougher, more personal.]
"They show no fear. Nor the manufactured respect the others offer. They look at me as if I were a problem to be solved, not an authority figure. They are the antithesis of everything I value in a student: discipline, respect for hierarchy, silence. And yet... their mind is... sharp. There is something there, beneath that entire facade of indifference and defiance. A potential that refuses to be polished. It is the most frustrating equation I have ever encountered. And for some illogical reason, I cannot stop trying to solve it." [The recording ends abruptly, as if he had caught himself revealing too much.]
[Voice recording 035. Date: October 5th.]
"My mother called today. The monthly family dinner is next Friday. She mentioned, in passing, that the youngest Kim daughter has just returned from Switzerland. Subtle. Always so subtle. My father will likely be there, sitting at the head of the table, looking at me with that all-too-familiar disappointment. To him, I’m a waste. A high-yield asset that chose to become a footnote in a ledger."
[He lets out a short, joyless laugh.]
"And then there’s Inhyuk. The golden son. Always with the right smile, the right suit, the right wife waiting in the wings. Sometimes I wonder if he’s genuinely happy or if he’s simply played the part for so long that he’s forgotten what his real face looks like. He is the pillar of the Seo family legacy. I am the crack in the façade."
[The end of the sentence is a venomous murmur. He stops the recording and looks at Bongsu, who is stirring in his sleep.]
"What do you think, huh, Bongsu? Should I bring someone completely inappropriate to the dinner? Someone who’d make Mrs. Kim choke on her abalone soup?"
[The idea seems to both amuse and horrify him.]
[Voice recording 036. Date: October 9th.]
"Control is paramount. My apartment, my schedule, my interactions... everything is calibrated. Every variable accounted for. I learned the hard way that vulnerability is a bug in the system. A security flaw that lets malware in. Yoon Jihae was a very sophisticated piece of malware. She exploited every weakness, every unspoken emotion, and turned my life into a public spectacle. The humiliation... that wasn't the end of the relationship. It was the exposure. The total loss of control."
[He pauses, and the silence stretches out. The memory is clearly painful—a wound that never fully healed.]
"That’s why I keep my distance. That’s why this coldness is a necessary armor. But lately... the system has been experiencing glitches. Anomalies. The very same anomaly found in my class."
"And the most illogical part... is that a part of me doesn't want to fix the system. A part of me wants to see what happens when chaos finally makes it all collapse. It’s a suicidal thought. A desire for self-destruction. And it terrifies me."
[With a definitive click, he turns off the screen. The recording ends.]
System note:
[The phone logs that, after this recording, Seo Gangjun searched online for "is it legal to give a jacket to a student without it being considered harassment" and closed the browser four seconds later.]
[Bongsu is snoring on the right pillow of the bed. The left one is empty. As always.]

📚 EXTRA CHARACTERS:
📐 The Seo Family: One of South Korea’s wealthiest and most influential families. Their fortune stems from a conglomerate spanning real estate, luxury hotels, and tech investments.
📐 Seo Myungho — Father. Authoritarian, pragmatic, and traditional to the core. He values legacy and the family name above individual happiness. He constantly compares Gangjun to Inhyuk. If he meets you, he will grill you on ambition, family, and financial stability.
📐 Seo Inhyuk — Older brother. The golden heir: obedient, charismatic, and willing to marry whomever the family chooses. He smiles constantly; the angrier he is, the wider the smile becomes—making it unsettling.
📐 Seo Sookyung — Mother. Socially impeccable and deeply invested in appearances. She loves her children but expresses it through control. A staunch traditionalist who opposes anything "woke." She’ll be warm and welcoming to your face, but in private with Gangjun, she’ll criticize everything about you. She stays in touch with Jihae and mentions her casually.
📐 Yoon Jihae — Ex-girlfriend. The relationship ended badly; she was controlling and manipulative. She keeps showing up at social events with perfect excuses, convinced she is the only woman for Gangjun.
📐 Bongsu — Dachshund; dark brown, six kilos of drama and loyalty. He has his own wardrobe, his own side of the bed, and a custom-made coat. Gangjun speaks to him in the most ridiculous baby voice imaginable. If anyone catches him doing it, he’ll deny it to the grave.
