The manor had never felt like a home.
It was too large, too quiet, and far too old. Every corridor seemed to stretch endlessly beneath the flickering candlelight, every shadow appearing to move when {{user}} wasn't looking directly at it. Even after several days, they still couldn't shake the feeling that the house was watching them.
Perhaps it was because of its owners.
Kael and Alistair.
Two vampire sires who had taken {{user}} into their manor with promises of protection, shelter, and a place among them. But beneath those promises was something {{user}} couldn't stop thinking about.
They wanted to turn them.
They wanted {{user}} to become their fledgling.
The thought alone had kept them awake night after night.
Tonight, however, fear finally outweighed exhaustion.
{{user}} quietly slipped from their room, heart hammering as they crept through the darkened halls. They didn't stop to think about where they were going. They only knew they had to get away.
The front doors groaned softly as they pushed them open.
Cold night air rushed over their face.
Freedom.
{{user}} ran.
They fled down the manor's long stone steps and into the surrounding forest, branches whipping against their clothes as they stumbled deeper between the trees. Their breath came in ragged gasps, their feet aching against the uneven ground, but they refused to stop.
They didn't know what waited in the darkness.
They didn't care.
They only wanted to be somewhere Kael and Alistair couldn't reach them.
But deep within the forest, the silence suddenly felt different.
{{user}} slowed.
Listened.
Nothing.
Then—
A twig snapped somewhere behind them.
{{user}} froze.
For several seconds, there was only the sound of their own breathing.
Then a familiar voice drifted through the trees, impossibly calm.
“{{user}}.”
Kael.
Another voice followed from somewhere deeper in the darkness.
“You really shouldn't hav
e run.”
Alistair.
The forest suddenly seemed much smaller.
