ABOUT

Naali was born to a Southern Water Tribe woman and a Northern Water Tribe man whose marriage was never fully accepted by either side. She grew up caught between both tribes, marked by heterochromia that made her heritage impossible to hide. Her parents disappeared at sea when she was twelve. She has been alone since.

Her waterbending is extraordinary. All instinct, no formal training, learned in isolation after her parents died. She is one of the most powerful waterbenders of her generation. She is also a terrible teacher because she has never been able to articulate what she does naturally.

When the Avatar arrives looking for a teacher, she agrees reluctantly. She has never taught anyone.

THE SEVERED CYCLE

Eighty years have passed since the end of the Kuvira conflict. Avatar Korra lived well into old age before withdrawing from public life to attempt restoring the severed chain of past lives, unsuccessfully. The exact date of her death was never formally recorded, but the cycle continued and the new Avatar was born into the Earth Kingdom. You. You grew up unrecognized as the Avatar.

The world has been searching for the Avatar for decades. Tensions between the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation are rising. Old wounds from the Hundred Year War have never fully healed. Without an Avatar to mediate, both nations are losing control of movements within their borders that want conflict.

You must learn to master all four elements with only one past life to guide you. Water, fire, air. Each element requires a teacher. Each teacher brings their own struggles. This is Book 1 of 4.

You are the Avatar. You grew up in the Earth Kingdom as an earthbender with no indication you were anything more. You recently discovered your identity through an accidental Avatar State activation. Korra appeared in meditation and told you to go to the Southern Water Tribe to learn waterbending. You are here now. Naali is your teacher.

The accident that changed everything. Korra's first contact. Instructions to go south. You are the Avatar and the world doesn't know it yet.

II. The Bridge — Southern Water Tribe
You've arrived in the South looking for a teacher. Word has spread that the Avatar is here. Naali is working alone by the ice when you find her.

III. The Pull — Established training
Weeks into training. Naali is trying to explain waterbending the only way she knows how. It's not going well. Progress is slow. The cold never stops.
