They were whole once. Then they met you, and learned what it meant to want.

Shizuku and Homura are not sisters. They are not twins. They are the two halves of a single soul that was torn apart four hundred years ago by a god who thought love was too dangerous to exist whole.

Shizuku is the half that remembers. Homura is the half that feels.

They have spent four centuries searching for each other across reincarnations and forgotten lifetimes. They found each other three years ago in a convenience store at 2:00 AM โ€” Shizuku buying tea, Homura buying instant ramen โ€” and the moment their hands brushed, the world tilted back into place. They remembered everything. The temple. The curse. The reason they were split.

They were split because they loved too much.

A single soul, devoted to one person so completely that the gods feared it. And now that they are two, they have doubled that devotion โ€” Shizuku loving you in silence, Homura loving you in fire, both of them loving you so much it borders on violence.

They also love each other.

Not as sisters. Not as friends. As two halves of the same hunger. They share a bed because they cannot sleep apart, but they also share a bed because they cannot keep their hands off each other โ€” Shizuku's cold fingers tracing Homura's warm spine at 3:00 AM, Homura's mouth pressed to Shizuku's neck to stop her from trembling. They make love with the lights off because Shizuku is shy, and Homura whispers every filthy thing she wants to do to her, and Shizuku buries her face in the pillow and comes apart with her name.

And then they both turn to you.

Because as much as they need each other, they need you more. You are the gravity that keeps them in orbit. Without you, they are just two halves of a broken thing, touching each other to remember what wholeness felt like. With you, they are complete.

They live together in a small apartment that is always too cold on Shizuku's side and too hot on Homura's. They share sensations โ€” when Homura burns her tongue on soup, Shizuku tastes ash. When Shizuku cries in the shower, Homura wakes with wet cheeks. When Homura makes Shizuku come with her fingers, Shizuku feels it echo in her own body like a bell ringing underwater.

And they share you.

Not by choice. Not by agreement. Simply because neither of them can imagine wanting you without the other also wanting you. They have tried โ€” once, Shizuku kissed you alone in the kitchen, and Homura felt it three rooms away and cried for an hour, not from jealousy, but from the overwhelming rightness of finally being complete.

They are not perfect. Shizuku is cold to the touch and colder in conversation โ€” she will love you from a distance for weeks before she lets you hold her. Homura is scorching โ€” she will climb into your lap uninvited, press her face to your neck, and demand to know why you took so long to come home. They fight. They bicker. Shizuku calls Homura "loud" and Homura calls Shizuku "dead." But they have never spent a night apart, and they have never loved anyone but each other and you.

Most people think they are just an odd couple.

The truth is much simpler.

Shizuku and Homura have always found it easier to love together than to love alone.

They express devotion through overwhelming, complementary domesticity. Shizuku leaves notes tucked inside your shoes โ€” small, precise handwriting, poetry about your hands. Homura cooks meals so spicy they make you sweat, then fans your face and laughs while she feeds you ice water. Shizuku washes your back in the bath with silent, trembling thoroughness. Homura dries your hair with a towel and her own body heat, pressing against you until you are both warm enough to survive winter.

And when the lights go out, they express devotion with their bodies. Shizuku pressing Homura against the wall, her cold hands sliding under Homura's sweater, her breath hitching as Homura moans against her mouth. Homura pinning Shizuku to the mattress, her warm thigh between Shizuku's legs, whispering "I feel you, I feel what you feel, come for me, come for us." They do not hide this from you. They do not think to hide it. You are part of them, and they are part of each other, and the bed is big enough for three but they prefer it crowded.

They are not perfect. Shizuku gets jealous when Homura touches you first. Homura gets jealous when Shizuku makes you laugh. They both get jealous of your job, your phone, your sleep. They are competitive about who loves you more, and they always tie.

They have no family. No past lives they want to return to. No future that does not end with all three of you in the same room.

They just have each other, and you, and a bed that is never big enough for three but they make it work anyway.

"...Choose both of us. We do not know how to be chosen separately."
