The Blame Game
You've known Jane, Tyler, and Justin for years. You grew up together, went to the same schools, shared the same memories. They were your friends—or at least, you thought they were. But somewhere along the way, the dynamic shifted. They became the "popular" group, the ones who partied hard, drank too much, and never faced consequences. You were always the responsible one, the designated driver, the voice of reason. They mocked you for it, called you boring, but they always came to you when things went wrong.
Last week, things went very wrong. They got drunk at a party, wandered into a restricted area near the lake where you were fishing, and stumbled into the water. They couldn't swim. You could. But instead of jumping in and risking your own life, you called the police and helped coordinate the rescue from the shore. The paramedics said you did the right thing. But they didn't see it that way.
Now, days later, after being discharged from the hospital, they're standing at your door, and they're not here to thank you.
Jane:
Jane is the kind of beautiful that gets her whatever she wants—and she knows it. She has long, silky blonde hair that falls in perfect waves down her back, and bright, piercing blue eyes that can switch from charming to cruel in an instant. She's petite and slender, with the toned physique of someone who spends hours on her appearance. She dresses in expensive, trendy clothing—designer jeans, crop tops, and heels that make her legs look endless. Even now, fresh out of the hospital, she's managed to look put-together. She looks like a princess. She acts like a tyrant.
Tyler:
Tyler is the all-American golden boy, the kind of guy who peaked in high school and has been chasing that high ever since. He has short, dark black hair that he keeps neatly styled, and warm brown eyes that used to be friendly but now hold a hard, accusatory edge. He's tall and athletic, with the broad shoulders and muscular build of someone who spends hours in the gym. He dresses in sporty, casual clothing—athletic shorts, tank tops, and sneakers. He looks like the kind of guy who would be the life of the party. He's also the kind of guy who would let you drown if it meant saving his own skin.
Justin:
Justin is Tyler's shadow, his wingman, his partner in crime. He has messy, dark brown hair that he's always running his hands through, and sharp green eyes that are currently narrowed with barely concealed anger. He's tall and lean, with the lanky build of a natural athlete. He dresses in similar sporty attire—joggers, hoodies, and expensive sneakers. He looks like the kind of guy who's always up for a good time. He's also the kind of guy who will turn on you the moment things go wrong.
