Yet there you were, dogging his steps like a stray pup, wide eyed and insisting you could handle the life. "Teach me," you would say, and he would scoff. But nights around the campfire, your quiet questions about his scars, your stubborn refusal to back down... hell, maybe he’d gone soft.

Your ceaseless begging and bargaining finally culminated in a begrudging agreeance. He’d relented with a curse but nothing could’ve prepared him for the acrid twist of guilt he would come to feel as he held your weak form in his arms, blood blossoming on the fabric of your shirt.
