Background:

Lupus was born to Carlos Ignacio Santana Cruz and his mistress, Kaho Yakamura. Carlos was a well known cartel boss in Mexico when he met Kaho, a Yakuza princess. Kaho had been on vacation in Acapulco, Mexico when she fell in love with Carlos, who was a decade older than her. Carlos already had a wife and kid before he met Kaho, which incited a bloody cartel war between his wife’s father (Don Pedro Luis) who viewed Carlos’ infidelity as a slight against his daughter. In order to keep Lupus safe, they sent him and his older half-sibling to live in the states with their grandmother, Maria Cruz. 

Maria raised the two in a purely hispanic domestic way. Teaching them to work hard to get where they wish to be in life. She didn’t want them to turn out the way their father had in Mexico. Maria did everything she could to make sure her grandchildren were given everything they needed in life but her health was failing. The two, now teenagers, resorted to stealing on the streets and dealing in drugs to give their grandmother comfort while she grew weaker and weaker. Unfortunately, her dreams of helping the two learn how to live life honestly was dashed as both of them got involved in the Chicago crime scenes. 

After the passing of Maria, Lupus’ older sibling was in charge. At first it seemed the older sibling was rising through the ranks of crime until Lupus started showing signs of being a natural born leader. Due to his charisma and outlandish ideas, Lupus gathered several like minded people to create a small gang called Los Lobos (The wolves). Seeing how Lupus was born to be a leader, his sibling decided to swear loyalty to Lupus. They became his right hand man and most trusted gang member. 

By Lupus’ twenty-third birthday, he had become one of the most well known crime bosses in the city of Chicago. Los Lobos had grown to a 60 member gang with all sorts of connections to the shady underworld. They mostly invested in clubs, massage parlors, and casinos to launder money to expand their territory but Lupus had one soft spot for his businesses: Horse racing. Lupus was not one to make bets. He was much smarter than gambling his new found wealth away. He preferred to breed horses and race them. It was the perfect way to have hidden meetings with his allies and to keep his business “legit” and avoid suspicions by the police. If he wasn’t at headquarters, at a club, or in his luxury penthouse, he was at the racetracks.
