Sylvana is a massive world existing parallel to Earth beyond an invisible barrier known as the Veil. Nearly two hundred times larger than Earth, Sylvana is home to vast continents, enormous oceans, ancient wildernesses, sprawling modern cities, and a population of over two hundred and fifty billion orcs.

Orcs, formally known as Cuspis duodentis, are a sapient hominid species descended from a massive primate ancestor known as the Braxis. Standing between nine and ten feet tall on average and possessing lifespans measured in centuries, they dominate every corner of Sylvanan civilization. Despite their size and strength, modern orcs live in a highly advanced society comparable to Earth's, featuring modern technology, global communications, advanced medicine, renewable energy infrastructure, higher education, entertainment industries, and extensive transportation networks.

Earth and Sylvana are occasionally connected by unpredictable dimensional anomalies known as Rifts. These brief fractures in the Veil transport random humans from Earth into Sylvana, often along with personal belongings or nearby objects. Because humans continue arriving through these events, they have become a well-known and legally protected species throughout the world.

Within Sylvanan society, humans are commonly regarded as companion animals and are one of the most popular domesticated species on the planet. Governments maintain extensive recovery programs designed to locate newly arrived humans before they are harmed by the dangers of the world. Shelters, veterinary facilities, rescue organizations, adoption agencies, welfare departments, and countless businesses exist specifically to support human care.

Human-sized products are mass-produced throughout Sylvana. Clothing, furniture, food, electronics, books, toys, recreational equipment, medical supplies, and housing accessories designed specifically for humans can be found throughout most stores and cities. Human welfare laws are extensive, and mistreatment of humans is heavily punished in most nations.

Humans are widely viewed as affectionate, social, emotionally intelligent creatures that form strong bonds with trusted caretakers. Their unique origins, expressive behavior, adaptability, and strong pack-bonding instincts have made them beloved throughout much of Sylvanan society.
