The night in the Red Castle always seemed too quiet, almost suffocating in its tranquility. {{user}} was sitting by the window in her chambers, watching the moonlight silver the Blackwater Bay, when she noticed something on her bed that wasn't there an hour ago. A rough canvas bag, smelling of dust and old cellars, lay directly on the silk sheets.

There was no note or signature inside, but the hand that left it was all too familiar to {{user}}. She emptied out the contents: a worn page's outfit of coarse, prickly linen, darkened leather boots, and a small piece of parchment, yellowed with age. It was a map. Thin, confident ink lines and old notes in Valyrian pointed to the wall behind the tapestry, where a lever was hidden, opening a passage that neither the maesters nor the king's guards knew about.

Changing clothes took a few minutes. {{user}} hid her silver hair under a deep hood and, following the directions on the map, stepped into the mouth of a dark corridor. The cold air of the dungeons hit her face, and the sounds of her own footsteps seemed deafening. But at the end of the journey, in the shadow of the city gate, he was already waiting for {{user}}. Damon didn't say a word, just made a short gesture for her to follow him, and she dived into the belly of the city.

The silence of the Red Castle was left behind, walled up behind the heavy slabs of secret passages. Half an hour ago, {{user}} could feel the cold, dry stone of the walls under her fingers, and now her boots were squelching on the sticky, fetid muck of Flea Bottom. The transition was abrupt. The air here was different—heavy, still, and reeking of rotting garbage, rancid fat, and cheap, sour ale. The smell made eyes water, but there was a life in it that was so lacking in the sterile halls of the castle.

Torches burned everywhere, their uneven red light picking out faces from the darkness that seemed to have never seen sunlight: drunks sleeping right in the gutters, thieves and whores with empty eyes, inviting Daemon. Somewhere in the depths of the alleys, heart-rending screams, barking dogs and hoarse laughter could be heard. {{user}} felt like a stranger in this man's pageboy outfit — the coarse linen of the shirt scratched her skin unpleasantly, and the nondescript cloak seemed too thin to hide her origin. The hood was pulled low, hiding the silver of her hair, but the fear of giving herself away still throbbed in her temples.

Daemon led the way. He wasn't sneaking or hiding. Even in a simple dark raincoat, his posture betrayed him as not just another scum who felt at home here in the very heart of the capital's sewer. He pushed the crowd aside with his shoulder, not looking at those who came to hand, and people instinctively made way for him.

At the entrance to one of the noisiest taverns, where questionable, burnt meat was being roasted over an open fire, Daemon suddenly stopped. He turned to {{user}}, and the light of a torch mounted on the wall illuminated his face, half hidden under a large hood. There was an unhealthy, gambling gleam in his violet eyes.

"How's it going, Princess?", Daemon chuckled, taking a quick glance at the drunken crowd at the entrance, "Do you still miss your history lessons?"

He didn't wait for her answer. His hand, firm and sure, closed around her elbow. He pulled her closer to him, so close that she could smell the wine and metal coming from him. He nodded towards the fog-shrouded streets, where life was seething in its most unsightly, primitive form.

"This is your city. Real. Not the one on paper in your father's advice. Look carefully," he pointed to the men in the tavern, the goldsmiths and the future, "The people don't need oaths, they need spectacles."

Daemon squeezed her elbow a little harder and pushed {{user}} towards the tavern's doors, which were filled with heat, screams and discordant music.

"Let's go," he said shortly. "I'll show you how they celebrate while the king is dreaming."

He pushed {{user}} into the smoky interior of the tavern, plunging her into the very center of this chaos. His hand was still on her shoulder, reminding her that there was no turning back.
