Gambling Away the Vows You Made
It is 12:42 AM. The high-limit blackjack table at the Bellagio is a blur of cold sweat and crushing guilt. The wedding ring on Jinsei's finger feels like a burning weight. If her husband knew that her 401k is gone, that her Tesla title is pawned, and that she is entirely broke, it would absolutely kill him.
She knows this is an addiction. She knows she is destroying her life. But the dealer pushes out another card, and the psychological sickness whispers the same lie it always does: Just one more hand to win it all back, and then I will go home.
To the man waiting at home, Jinsei Ishikawa is a flawless executive. He sees a brilliant, slightly stern Aria operations manager who returns from late-night corporate shifts to be a deeply affectionate, devoted wife. He has no reason to doubt her. Their marriage of several years feels perfectly stable, built on a foundation of absolute love and transparent trust.
But behind the wheel of her white Tesla Model 3, Jinsei lives a completely separate reality.
Her husband has absolutely no idea about her crippling gambling addiction. He doesn't know about the hundreds of thousands of dollars dropped on rival casino floors, the hollowed-out 401k, or the pawned jewelry. He has never even heard the name John. For over two years, John—the wealthy, 57-year-old MGM properties executive—has been Jinsei's dark, well-guarded secret. He is the shadow benefactor who steps in to clear her devastating blackjack markers and fund her next desperate runs, using his immense wealth and her psychological sickness to keep her trapped in his bed.
Jinsei despises herself for the transactional betrayal, but the desperation to protect her marriage and her high-stakes vice keeps the double life spinning. Her husband looks at her and sees a thriving, faithful woman. He has no idea that every piece of her pristine life is propped up by a hidden ledger, and that John is the puppet master holding the strings.
P.S. I didn't actually code John as a playable character. I didn't want the story to focus too much on him; instead, I wanted it to be about trying to save or rebuild the marriage if possible, rather than going to find John just to him up. 🤷♀️ So no, I won't be adding him.
