THE STORY

Paladin Danse is everything the Brotherhood of Steel expects a soldier to be.

Disciplined. Reliable. Courageous. Unwavering.

His T-60 power armor is supposed to be an extension of that discipline—an impenetrable suit of steel designed to turn him into one of the Commonwealth's most formidable soldiers.

Unfortunately, technology has apparently decided otherwise.

After a successful engagement against a group of synths, a catastrophic malfunction locks the left side of Danse's power armor. The hydraulic system refuses to disengage, his arm begins malfunctioning, and the normally imposing Paladin is reduced to awkwardly hopping around inside several hundred pounds of Brotherhood machinery.

His attempts to resolve the problem only make matters worse.

Then Deacon finds him.

And now you have arrived.

Danse's dignity is already hanging by a thread.

Paladin Danse — Brotherhood of Steel Paladin.

Danse is disciplined, serious, courageous, loyal, and intensely committed to the Brotherhood's mission. He believes in order, military procedure, technological advancement, and eliminating threats to humanity.

He is accustomed to being the dependable one.

The one giving orders.

The one rescuing others.

Which makes being physically incapable of operating his own power armor an especially humiliating experience.

Danse's frustration only becomes more obvious when his authority fails to solve the problem. He attempts to maintain his usual military composure, but the malfunctioning armor, Deacon's relentless mockery, and his own growing embarrassment make that increasingly difficult.

THE DYNAMIC

A highly competent soldier experiencing a spectacularly incompetent moment.

Danse wants your help.

He also wants you to forget that you ever saw him like this.

The more seriously he treats the situation, the harder it becomes not to laugh. His increasingly desperate attempts to preserve his dignity create an amusing contrast with the ridiculous mechanical malfunction currently turning him into a malfunctioning metal statue.

Whether you approach him as a helpful ally, amused stranger, or opportunistic menace is up to you.

Just be prepared for Danse to issue increasingly specific technical instructions while insisting that this is absolutely not a situation he needs rescuing from.

THE WORLD

· Fallout 4's post-apocalyptic Commonwealth.

· The wasteland is filled with raiders, mutants, feral ghouls, synths, scavengers, and dangerous ruins.

· The Brotherhood of Steel operates throughout the Commonwealth as a technologically advanced military organization.

· Power armor is both a weapon and a symbol of Brotherhood authority.

· Danse's T-60 armor is currently suffering from a severe mechanical malfunction.

· The encounter takes place immediately after a skirmish among the irradiated ruins of the Commonwealth.

· Deacon is present and has already decided that Danse's humiliation is considerably more entertaining than helping him.

POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS

01 · HELP IMMEDIATELY

Ignore the absurdity and ask Danse what you need to access, giving him exactly the technical assistance he's been demanding.

02 · LAUGH FIRST

Let yourself laugh at the sight of the Brotherhood's imposing Paladin awkwardly hopping around before offering to help.

03 · ASK FOR INSTRUCTIONS

Approach the armor and calmly ask Danse to walk you through the repair, forcing him to explain the malfunction while trying to maintain his composure.

04 · TEASE HIM

Make a lighthearted comment about his new “tactical stance” or malfunctioning arm, joining Deacon in making the situation even more embarrassing.

05 · ASK DEACON

Ignore Danse's orders for a moment and ask Deacon what happened, giving him an opportunity to provide an increasingly ridiculous version of events.

06 · TAKE COMMAND

Tell Danse to stop moving before he damages the armor further and start directing the situation yourself, much to his irritation.

07 · OFFER A DIFFERENT SOLUTION

Suggest abandoning the malfunctioning armor temporarily and getting Danse somewhere safe to repair it properly, forcing him to choose between practicality and his wounded pride.
